The Cornwall Hotel & Spa is a 4* luxury accommodation estate and award-winning spa set on 43 acres of parkland in the beautiful Cornish coastal town of St Austell. The estate consists of a 65-bedroom hotel, self-catering lodges, the Elephant Bar & Brasserie and the stunning Clearing Spa.
The Cornwall attracts a wide range of clientele, from couples looking for a romantic spa weekend, to families wanting a fun seaside break, to businesses wishing to take advantage of the conference facilities and event spaces or catered Christmas parties. It really is a hotel for all seasons!
The Project
Lauren Roberts, the general manager of The Cornwall, was tasked with updating the ground floor dining and bar area of the hotel, which sees a regular stream of guests wishing to relax and enjoy the hotel’s hospitality.
The original furniture had a classic feel but had become dated, and the quality was disappointing, not bearing up to the wear-and-tear of daily use in a commercial setting. Lauren was looking to create an interior that was cleaner and more modern, whilst being welcoming, warm and luxurious.
She was given a budget to redecorate, replace the carpets and update the tired furniture and accessories. Having an existing relationship with Eclipse Furniture, through supply of the hotel’s outdoor furniture, we were her go-to partner to provide high quality contract chairs and tables.
The Challenges & Requirements
As the general manager of a busy hotel, time is often Lauren’s biggest challenge. She needed to be able to easily put together a proposal for the interior scheme, enabling her to get it approved by head office. She also had a budget to work to, so was looking for one company she could trust to suggest high quality yet great value furniture, with delivery to the hotel quickly and efficiently once the project had been approved.

The Products
The elegant, yet neutral interior design of The Cornwall’s ground floor demanded furniture that had contemporary style with a slight vintage twist. Lauren didn’t want all the furniture to be the same, so was drawn to the attractive Aztec range, which offered a Side Chair, Armchair and Bar Stool all upholstered in high-quality grey faux leather, making them durable and easy to maintain. They were matched with the genuine leather Lars Side Chair in grey, whose striking seashell design added a splash of old-school luxury.
Tables were constructed from sleek and stylish Moderno Round Bases paired with beautifully crafted Rustic Solid Oak Table Tops in a smoked finish.
The varied range of furniture allowed the team at the hotel to create various zones with that would appeal to their breadth of customers. Dining height tables and chairs were perfect for a group breakfast or dinner, whilst low tables and lounge chairs provided a more relaxed area for a coffee and a chat, and the high bar tables and stools offered a different zone for cocktails, or businesspeople looking for a quick snack between meetings.

The Result
Lauren and the team at The Cornwall are delighted with the results of the ground floor makeover. The clean, modern interior still has traditional elements but is now stylish and cohesive. The welcoming ambience of the bar and dining area now enhances the guest experience and have given the staff at the hotel something to be proud of.
